Script written by Garrett Alden

#10: Zentisu Agatsuma

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019-)

Zenitsu is a cowardly Demon Slayer, who lacks confidence in his own abilities…most of the time. It takes falling asleep or being unconscious for his true potential to awaken. While all the Demon Slayers use breathing techniques to give themselves superhuman abilities, Zenitsu’s is the most dramatic. His Thunder Breathing allows him to move at superhuman speed. He may have only mastered one of its forms, but he’s polished it to such a degree that he doesn’t need any others! His lightning-fast attacks are enough to make short work of weaker foes, and quick enough to even defeat Upper Rank demons, with some help. It’s too bad Zenitsu will never know how cool he looks.

#9: Luck Voltia

“Black Clover” (2017-21)

Speaking of electricity-themed speedsters, Luck Voltia is another sparky powerhouse. Specializing in lightning magic, Luck is always looking for a fight and is often seen smiling with sociopathic glee at the prospect of duking it out with someone. Most of the time, Luck’s battles don’t last long. By coating his limbs in lightning, Luck can increase his speed to an incredible degree. He once went so fast, he went through one of his opponents! We’re just glad he’s a part of the Black Bulls!

#8: Meruem

“Hunter x Hunter” (2011-14)

The King of Chimera Ants, Meruem is possibly the most powerful being in “Hunter x Hunter.” Even moments after he was born, the monstrous monarch quickly kills two of his fellow Ants before anyone can react. In a fight against Netero, one of the strongest humans, Meruem is faster, except against Netero’s signature move, and even then he catches up. At the peak of his power, after devouring parts of his subordinates, Meruem gains the power of flight, allowing him to fly at supersonic speeds. He even moves so fast at one point that it looks like he’s teleporting! Meruem is truly the king, because he rules.

#7: Korosensei

“Assassination Classroom” (2015-16)

The ultimate assassin, Korosensei is also an amazing teacher. Also, a yellow octopus man made of antimatter. It’s the last of these that give him his supernatural speed. In addition to being immune to most weaponry and able to regenerate what few injuries he does receive, Korosensei can move at around Mach 20, which is over twice as fast as the fastest aircrafts in the real world! Not only does this let him dodge bullets, but he can also use speed mirages to give each of his students individual teaching sessions simultaneously! It’s also handy if Korosensei wants to jet around the world for a quick snack or vacation.

#6: Nice

Top 10 Times Nice Guys SNAPPED in Anime (ft. Jonah Scott)

“Hamatora” (2014)

One of the detectives in the eponymous agency, Nice is a carefree guy, just as his name suggests. However, get on his bad side, and you’ll regret it! Nice possesses a Holder ability, which grants him the power to manipulate and move along sound waves; essentially giving him the power to move at the speed of sound. Nice activates this by snapping his fingers. Although it’s limited by how far the sound of his snapping fingers travels, there’s a good chance that if his enemy hears him, they’ll soon be on the ground!

#5: Kizaru a.k.a. Borsalino

“One Piece” (1999-)

Borsalino is a Marine Admiral with the alias Kizaru, and likely the fastest person in the “One Piece” world. Like many characters in the series, Kizaru ate a Devil Fruit, which gave him a special ability. His particular power allows him to become and generate light. In addition to creating powerful laser beams, Kizaru can use his ability to travel at the speed of light! This gives his physical attacks some unbelievable power, and lets him run rings around the many powerful pirates he must contend with. When you go that fast, no wonder he likes to take his time.

#4: Whis

“Dragon Ball Super” (2015-18)

Whis is the attendant of Lord Beerus, the God of Destruction for Universe 7, the home dimension of the “Dragon Ball” universe. However, he’s also Beerus’ teacher and claims to be the fastest being in their universe. Able to travel through space without a spaceship, Whis can travel at least faster than light. The angelic attendant is easily able to not only fight speedy opponents like Goku and Vegeta simultaneously, but he does so easily! He even takes out Beerus himself like he’s an unruly child! We’re betting we haven’t even seen the peak of his power yet. We’re betting he goes all out for pudding or something.

#3: Sonic

“Sonic X” (2003-06)

That’s right! Sonic is in an anime too! “Sonic X” showcases the blue blur in his fight against Doctor Eggman. While the show is certainly not without its flaws, Sonic himself is just as swift as his video game counterpart. The hedgehog manages to run faster than real world animals, as well as a rocket powered car. He’s even faster than lightning! And that’s not even taking his Super Sonic form into account! The theme song made it abundantly clear that Sonic has “gotta’ go fast,” and he certainly delivers.

#2: Sho Kusakabe

Top 20 Zero to Hero Anime Characters

“Fire Force” (2019-)

The younger brother of series protagonist Shinra Kusakabe, Sho has grown up apart from his sibling and under the wing of a cult. Cold and calm under pressure, Sho can keep up with speedy opponents even without his powers. But, with them? Sho is borderline broken! Like nearly all the abilities in “Fire Force,” Sho’s abilities are heat related. He essentially takes heat away from the entire universe, which makes time appear to stand still for everyone but him. In doing so, Sho moves faster than light, creates time dilation 0 basically the boy breaks the laws of physics ten times over.

#1: Saitama

Also in:

Anime Duel: Goku Vs Saitama

“One Punch Man” (2015-)

There are many speedy individuals in the world of “One Punch Man.” And while Speed-o’-Sound Sonic may like to think he’s Saitama’s rival, the ninja just can’t compete. Saitama is his world’s strongest hero, not that most people know it. In addition to being strong enough to defeat anyone or anything with a single punch, Saitama is also absurdly fast! In his fights with several characters, Saitama moves so fast he leaves after images. While that’s hardly unique among speedy characters, the real illustration of his speed comes when one foe knocks him into the moon…and Saitama returns to Earth in mere seconds!
If there’s a speedy anime character you wish had made it over the finish line and onto our list, race down to the comments to tell us!
