Top 20 Mind Blowing Powers in Anime

Top 20 Mind Blowing Powers in Anime
VOICE OVER: Ashley Bowman WRITTEN BY: Matthew Guida
These anime powers are insane! For this list, we'll be looking at the powers in anime that defy conventional reasoning and border on the realm of impossibility or are just virtually too insane to figure out. Our countdown includes “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War”, “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime”, “Chainsaw Man”, “Bungo Stray Dogs”, and more!

#20: Zanka no Tachi

“Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” (2022-)

If you thought old man Yama’s Shikai was impressive, his bankai is on a whole other level. Used only as a last resort due to its immense destructive power, Yamamoto’s bankai has four forms, each one possessing its own ability. These include concentrating the power of his flames into the tip of his blade to destroy anything it touches, creating flame armor as hot as the sun, summoning a legion of burning undead, and even unleashing a burning slash so powerful, it can wipe out anything from existence. Although it's taken nearly two decades for fans to witness the full power of the strongest Zanpakuto in animated form, the results were well worth the wait.

#19 The Sandevistan

“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” (2022)

In a dystopian future where most people trick themselves out with high level tech, the Sandevistan is among the most sought after. Once equipped, the Sandevistan allows its wearer to slow down their perception of time, allowing them to inflict devastating blows before their enemies even realize what’s happened. While the Sandevistan’s use is severely limited for most people, a lucky few, such as David Martinez, can use it several times a day. In the hands, or rather backs, of those select few, the Sandevistan becomes a powerful trump card capable of turning the tide of any battle to the users favor. Ultimately, the only real threat to someone with Sandevistan, is an even more skilled Sandevistan user.

#18: The Op-Op Fruit

“One Piece” (1999-)

As far as mind-blowing powers go, the Op-Op fruit can literally make a person’s head spin, among other things. Consumed by Trafalgar Law, a member of the Worst Generation, the Op-Op Fruit’s power is one of a kind even among Devil Fruits. Its primary ability involves creating a forcefield, or ROOM, where Law can freely manipulate people and objects trapped inside. These include hacking and slashing people to pieces without killing them, healing incurable diseases, bypassing external defenses to strike vital areas, as well as teleporting. This Devil Fruit can even bestow someone with eternal life, but only at the cost of the user. With so much power at his disposal, there’s virtually no limit to what Law can do with this ability.

#17: Megiddo

“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” (2018-)

Anyone foolish enough to anger the Ruler of Tempest is guaranteed to be struck down by this deadly spell. While it can only be used during the day, Meggido is a very effective form of Physics Magic capable of wiping out an army of thousands in only a few minutes. Once activated, even a second of hesitation or carelessness can result in someone’s end. Not even veteran warriors or experienced mages can escape this spell unscathed. With such a terrifying skill in his arsenal, it’s no wonder Rimuru was able to ascend to the rank of Demon Lord so quickly.

#16: Drumming

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” (2019-)

Despite no longer being one of the Twelve Kizuki, Kyogai’s Blood Demon Art makes him more dangerous than the average demon. By luring people into his home, Kyogai can trap and disorient his victims by using one of the six drums on his body to manipulate his surroundings. From rotating the rooms in different directions or striking down foes with his navel drum's slash attack, Kyogai’s ability makes him quite unpredictable. While his Blood Demon Art may have been limited to just his mansion, there is no denying that only the most gifted demon slayers have a chance at beating him.

#15: Decay

“My Hero Academia” (2016-)

This quirk’s power is the very definition of a one-hit kill. As its name suggests, Decay grants Tomura Shigaraki the ability to disintegrate anything or anyone he touches. Even when its power was diminished by a past trauma, Tomura’s quirk was still very dangerous. As Tomura eventually faces and overcomes said trauma, his quirk reaches even more terrifying heights. Along with being able to disintegrate multiple people without directly touching them, Decay’s power further increased to the point where Tomura can eradicate an entire city with just a single touch. With this power in hand, Tomura’s more than earned his title as the next “Symbol of Fear”.

“The Eminence in Shadow” (2022-)

Just when you think that Cid Kageno can’t get more OP, he goes and develops this ultimate technique. Created by his desire to overcome nuclear weapons, this technique allows Cid to channel overwhelming power into his blade, unleashing a massive blast of atomic energy to reduce his foes to ash. After enduring so many battles, Cid’s managed to master this technique to the point where he’s developed different versions of it, including one that allows him to heal his allies. With such a dangerous ace up his sleeve, Cid has gone far beyond just mastering nuclear energy, he’s practically become it. Hence, the name.

#13: Kon

Top 10 Lamest Powers in Anime

“Chainsaw Man” (2022-)

Talk about taking a bite out of crime. By making contracts with humans, the Fox Devil allows them to summon parts of its large body to aid them in battle, usually in exchange for the summoner's flesh. However, the Fox Devil only allows a select few to summon its head. For those lucky few that do have access to its head, summoning it not only destroys its surroundings, but also instantly devours any devil unfortunate enough to be its target. So unless the enemy happens to be a human-devil hybrid, the chances of surviving an encounter with this beast are pretty low.

#12: Limitless

“JuJutsu Kaisen” (2020-)

Nothing short of a fully resurrected King of Curses can hope to match a true master of Limitless. As the inherited technique of the Gojo family, Limitless grants users like Satoru Gojo the power to manipulate space by manifesting concepts of “infinity” into reality. When combined with the Gojo clan’s rare trait the Six Eyes, Limitless’ true power can be unleashed. Its base state “Infinity” prevents enemy attacks from even reaching Gojo and its advanced “Blue” and “Red” techniques allow him to perform feats such as instantaneous movement, crush enemy limbs, as well as decimate enemies with repulsive force. And those aren’t even Gojo’s best moves. These include his secret “Purple” technique which erases everything it touches, as well as his Domain Expansion which renders his enemies catatonic and unable to fight back.

#11: Made in Heaven

“JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean” (2021-22)

While its appearance may seem unusual, rest assured that this manifestation of visual energy is one of the most dangerous Stands for a reason. Otherwise known as the “key to reaching heaven”, Made in Heaven ranks highly above all other Stands due to its ability to accelerate time, letting it move at literal godlike speed. Not only does Made in Heaven’s ability decrease the duration of powers like Time Stop, it also accelerates the time of the universe itself, forcing all organic life to watch helplessly as the world literally crumbles around them. What’s even more mind blowing is the fact that once Made in Heaven reaches a universe's vanishing point, an entirely new one is created in its place.

#10: Burst Element

Top 10 Beyblade Burst Battles

“Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld” (2019)

And Alice just keeps giving us reasons why she's the borderline best girl. By channeling the souls of the dead into her blade, the Integrity Knight is able to unleash what appears to be a giant clover made of light, which can then unleash a beam of such force and magnitude that it can annihilate a whole group of marauding monsters. You have to wonder why everyone is so afraid of the Dark Territory when you have Alice on the front lines. It’s like bringing a nuke to a knife fight.

#9: Direct Drive Zone

“Kuroko’s Basketball” (2012-15)

Oh, you thought the super athletes with their multi-coloured lightning eyes were the pinnacle of basketball transformations? You’d be dead wrong. Faced with the overwhelming force of Akashi and his cohorts, Kagami finds a way to go beyond and access the Direct Drive Zone. This new mindset allows all the Seiren players to enter a level of focus and skill capable of overcoming even the top tier skills of Rakuzan’s forces…along with some really trippy visuals that makes us think these guys just entered the matrix.

#8: Anne of Abyssal Red

“Bungo Stray Dogs” (2016-19)

Before Lucy became comic relief and possible love interest for golden boy Atsushi, she was a member of The Guild, ergo she was a dangerous and obscenely wealthy lunatic that had zero issues with dragging her victims to hell courtesy of her strange and startling ability. In this instance, it’s an entire pocket dimension complete with a beastly doll that can pummel its targets before throwing them out the door into an endless void. It’s like Alice in Wonderland, only with even more LSD.

#7: Stardust Breaker

“Dragon Ball” Franchise (1986-)

Isn’t it nice to step away from the Kamehameha for once and focus on something newer and shinier? Well, in the case of this all-powerful fusion, his signature technique turns out to be a tad more…sparkly than we imagined. That’s not to say it doesn’t pack one hell of a wallop, since this handful of pixie dust was so intense that just a sprinkling was enough to not only rip apart Janemba, but also did a number on Broly when he smashed his way into the canon-verse.

#6: All Fiction

Also in:

Top 10 Anime Powers

“Medaka Box” (2012)

The power to instantly erase aspects of the universe, and it’s in the hands of the ultimate loser with a never-ending desire to witness all the panties he can. You’d think being able to put the literal screws to people would make Kumagawa someone to be feared, but it’s through his Minus he was able to establish himself as one of the most underrated antagonists in anime. Who else do you know that can not only erase mortal wounds from their body, but also strip away color from existence until the cosmos has literally been plunged into black and white?

#5: Ultimate Madoka

Also in:

Top 10 Ultimate Anime Moves

“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)

How does one show a normal person ascending to divinity and reconstructing all of creation while she’s at it? Well, if you’re Madoka, you not only snipe down a planet-sized witch with your new god bow, but weave yourself into the very fabric of time itself, removing all witches from existence and allowing magical girls across all the centuries to find peace in death. Honestly, if you think about it too hard you’ll feel your brain melt, which is true testament to just how incomprehensible Madoka became in her shining moment of sacrifice.

#4: Inner Self

Also in:

Top 10 Anime Powers We Wish Were Real

“Mononoke” (2007)

You’re unlikely to find a more artistic transformation scene in all of anime. Upon deducing the nature, origins and truth behind a demonic spirit known as a mononoke, the Medicine Seller unleashes his ace in the hole – the Sword of Exorcism. With its infinite reach and potency, it’s the only weapon capable of slaying creatures born of pure negativity, not to mention takes the pale, feline fellow and gives him a supernatural makeover, one with plenty of luminous markings that make him looking he has a living painting across his skin!

#3: Another Dimension

Also in:

Top 20 Insanely Broken Anime Abilities

“Saint Seiya” (1986-89)

You know you’ve made it in life when you can casually walk up to your opponent, hoist them up, and toss their ass into an alternate plain of reality that lurks between time and space. That’s Gemini Saga for you; a Gold Saint with such swag that he sent the likes of Shun and Hyoga packing with zero effort, to the point where they had to float around in what looks like a retro game screen, complete with the 80s grid effect we all know and love. It may not be flashy with its build up, but the result is all kinds of awesome.

#2: Adolla Burst

“Fire Force” (2019-)

While the true nature of this blazing phenomenon remains a mystery, what we do know is that it has allowed for some really freaky shit to happen. In between all of the literal fire fights of course. In the case of Shinra and Sho, it not only lets them manipulate heat to the extent they can freeze time and move faster than light, but can also link up with one another’s emotional states. On top of that, the White Clad plan on using both of their precious, pure flames to help turn the planet into a second sun.

#1: Gold Experience Requiem

“JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind” (2018-19)

When a Stand is revealed to be so monumental in ability that it ends up confusing half the fandom, you know you’ve reached peak JoJo. After absorbing the power of the arrow for himself, both Giorno and Gold Experience ascend to the stage where the rules of reality really don’t matter, to the point where King Crimson and its time erasing powers wasn’t able to touch them. Not only was this new Requiem capable of pummelling the hell out of his foe like they were nothing more than a sandbag, but was able to sentence them to an endless loop of death and rebirth – purely because it refuses to let anything it touches reach the truth.
